THE MUSICIANS' HAND

Musicians' hands are particularly prone to disease and/or trauma.

The discovery and mastery of a musical instrument (or several) can begin very early, before the end of growth, and this can have a particular impact on the child's development.

Playing an instrument requires constant training to maintain the necessary dexterity, speed and stamina. A musician's career can start early and extend late. This exposes the hands to heavy use and, consequently, to early deterioration of certain tissues (tendons and joints in particular).

On the other hand, the functional requirements of a musician are very specific, similar to those of a top-level athlete. It is therefore necessary to understand the art of music to better understand the needs of musicians.

As a result, musicians' hands are more vulnerable to certain pathologies, such as

  • osteoarthritis of the fingers or thumb
  • nerve compression, such as carpal tunnel or ulnar nerve compression at the elbow
  • musician's cramp
  • tendonitis ...
